The demi-fine jewellery magazine
Club by FYR: the demi-fine jewellery magazine.
Independent reviews and styling notes for the demi-fine class. Rubric-scored, retail-paid, and worth reading.

The rubric.
Six categories, five points each, thirty points total. Same test for every brand.
- Materials. Alloy purity, gemstone provenance, metal microns.
- Craft. Solder joins, clasp mechanism, stone setting, finish.
- Ethics. Recycled metal, traceable stones, factory audit.
- Price. Value against solid-gold equivalents at each price band.
- Longevity. Tarnish, wear, and clasp at the 12-month and 5-year mark.
- Style. Wearability across three real outfits, not one campaign shot.
Demi-fine, defined.
Demi-fine sits between costume and fine. Solid gold accents on sterling silver, real gemstones, and prices between £80 and £900. The pieces you buy for yourself in your late twenties, wear through your thirties, and pass on in your fifties.
We test each brand against a public 6-point rubric: materials, craft, ethics, price, longevity, style. We pay retail for every piece. Brands are told after publication, never before. If a piece disappoints, we say so and update the ranking with the date.

Mejuri: the safe bet, mostly.
Consistent 14k vermeil and solid gold basics. Strong on price, softer on ethics disclosure.

Missoma: statement pieces, honest metal.
Sculptural vermeil at a fair price. Sizing runs generous; ethics reporting is public and detailed.

Astrid & Miyu: stackers welcome.
Best-in-class ear stacks and welded bracelets. Vermeil finish holds well past the 12-month mark.
Which metal, actually.
Vermeil, gold-filled, plated, solid. The differences show up at the 12-month mark, not on day one. Three pages, no jargon.
Vermeil vs plated
2.5 microns on sterling versus 0.5 microns on any base. The five-fold difference in wear.
Vermeil vs gold-filled
Vermeil layers gold; gold-filled bonds it under heat and pressure. Which one lasts longer, and why.
Every gold metal, ranked
Solid 10k / 14k / 18k, vermeil, gold-filled, gold-plated. What each one means on your skin.
Care, without the folklore.
Toothpaste is not a cleaning method. Baking soda has trade-offs. Here is what actually works on 925 sterling, on vermeil, on pearls, on gemstones. Ranked by damage risk to the piece.
Does sterling silver tarnish?
The copper-sulphur reaction, and the five things that make it worse.
How to remove tarnish from silver
Five methods tested, ranked from safest to most abrasive.
Gold jewellery care
Solid, vermeil, gold-filled: which needs which cleaning method, on what schedule.

Styling notes
Layer, stack, cuff.
- How to layer necklaces without them tangling. Three chains at 40 / 45 / 50cm, and the trick to the clasp.
- How to stack rings, a working method. Widths, metals, and where a signet earns its place.
- How to wear an ear cuff so it actually stays on. Fit points, cartilage, and the no-piercing pinch.
